The AlertXpress Rapid Alert System is a community notification system that is capable of rapidly alerting large numbers of individuals to important conditions such as tornado warnings, boil orders, and burn bans. Access to the system is provided to the Carlisle Police Department and other law enforcement agencies by the Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC).

AlertXpress has the capability to make 7,000 to 10,000 one minute calls per hour, and can send alerts via telephone, fax, and e-mail. However, the system is only as good as the information contained in its databases.

When the system was initially set up for Carlisle, the police department relied on the phone numbers listed in the Carlisle phone directory. Since many residents have unpublished numbers or now rely exclusively on cellular phones, much of the contact information contained in the system is incomplete or inaccurate.

If you are a resident living within the Carlisle (552) telephone prefix and wish to receive AlertXpress notifications, you can update your information or request that you be added to the system by calling the Carlisle Police Department at (870) 552-3687 or by e-mailing us. You should also feel free to contact us if you are unsure whether we have your contact information.

When contacting us, please provide your name, physical address, and the phone number(s) (up to three) at which you wish to be contacted. In addition, you may provide a fax number and e-mail address.

Please be aware that the system is not without flaws, and during past tests, not everybody we attempted to contact received an alert. Also, in the instance of a statewide severe weather event or other large-scale emergency, there is the possibility that the system could become at least temporarily overwhelmed. In addition, service interruptions in the landline or cellular telephone systems could hamper our abilities to issue alerts. The technology is continually evolving though, and the company providing the service is constantly working on improvements to its notification capabilities.
